Who we are?

Kinniya Vision is a one of the leading local Non Governmental Organizations working in Sri Lanka. This organization was founded in 1996 by a group of intellectuals with an aim of supporting war affected poor and marginalized families to improve their living conditions in Kinniya.

This organization has been working in Trincomalee district; particularly in Kinniya initially and recently, Kinniya Vision has expanded its activities into all other Divisional Secretariat divisions in the district.

At present, Plans are underway to expand its activities into other districts of Eastern Province. During the last decades of its existence, Kinniya Vision has emerged as a local leader and catalyst in helping war and tsunami affected poor rural communities including children, youths and women in the district.


Flush flood Emergencies in the Eastern Province of Sri Lanka.

Water level still continues to rise due to receding waters from Kantale, Polannaurwa and Habarana areas. Waters discharged from many tanks flow through Kinniya and creep into many low lying residential areas resulting in putting many houses under siege. The other important development is collapse of one of the main bridge, between Kinniya and Kurincharkeny. Kurincharkeny Island has been disconnected from the main town causing severe difficulties in accessing essential services by the people. Flush flood Emergencies in the Eastern Province of Sri Lanka.

The heavy torrential rains the Eastern Province had for the last two week has caused severe flush floods and affected the entire province resulting in displacement of thousands of families. The flush floods have also caused severe damages to hundred of houses, infrastructure facilities (bridges, link roads, electricity etc) thousands of acres of paddy fields and other crops cultivation including livestock.
